Surewise has launched its first ever TV advert for Mobility Scooter Insurance, and we believe it’s the first of its kind in the sector. You’ll be able to spot it across ITV channels, on YouTube, and on our social media.
For us, it’s about more than appearing on TV. It’s about closing an awareness gap around mobility scooter insurance that’s gone unaddressed for too long.

Our own research found that 60% of mobility scooter users are uninsured. Of those, almost a third were not aware that cover was available at all, while another third believed they did not need it. That represents a significant number of people going without protection that could make a meaningful difference to their daily lives.
Surewise director Richard Hannan explains:
“Many users don’t realise cover exists until something goes wrong, even though a stolen or damaged scooter can have a huge impact on someone’s independence and daily life.”
We wanted to change that.
A national TV campaign felt like the clearest way to reach both scooter users themselves and the family members who often help their parents sort out insurance.
Richard Hannan adds:
“Mobility scooter insurance has traditionally been a low-profile category. It’s taken a long time for a specialist provider like Surewise to reach the scale and confidence to invest in a national television campaign, but we believe the market has now reached that point.
“We wanted to be the first brand to establish ourselves as the insurer which provides this protection in the minds of UK consumers – and we’re proud to be the first to take that message onto mainstream television.”

A Growing Community of Scooter Users
There are close to 750,000 mobility scooters in use across the UK, and we expect that number to keep rising.
A big part of that is our ageing population. The Office for National Statistics projects that the number of people of pensionable age will reach 15.3 million by mid-2049, making up 23.7% of the population. At the same time, more people than ever are looking for devices to help them stay independent.
A mobility scooter is one of those devices. For many people, it’s the difference between being able to visist the shops, the GP, or a friend’s house, without relying on someone else. That’s why protecting it matters so much.
It’s also worth remembering that a mobility device can be needed at any age. Part of our work with The Safer Mobility Campaign is to help reduce the stigma that can surround using a device like a mobility scooter.
The Everyday Risks We See
The streets and pavements we use every day weren’t designed with scooter users in mind, and that creates real risks. The most common claims we see come from everyday hazards that are hard to avoid:
- Accidental damage from minor collisions, potholes, and kerb drops
- Punctures, which can leave you stranded without warning
- Theft or vandalism, which can leave you without your device and your independence
There’s also third-party cover to think about. A collision with a pedestrian can lead to a substantial injury claim, which isn’t a situation most people would want to face without protection in place.
Affordable Cover From £3.80 a Month
One of the messages we most want to get across is that this protection is genuinely affordable. Our Mobility Insurance starts from £3.80 a month.
We think it’s worth considering cover before an incident happens, rather than after.
As Richard explains, “Mobility scooter insurance exists, it is affordable, and protecting your independence is worth thinking about before an incident occurs rather than afterwards.”
Filmed on the Steepest Street in England
We made the advert with production company Happy Hour Productions, who truly understood our brief and vision for our first TV advert.
We chose to shoot the advert on Vale Street in Bristol, which is the steepest street in England. It made a fitting backdrop for an advert all about confidence, independence, and getting where you need to go.
Zoe Bulbeck, creative at Happy Hour Productions, said:
“It’s been a real privilege to work on this advert – the first of its kind for mobility scooter insurance.
We wanted the advert to be warm and uplifting, with a touch of humour. For that, our character Annie needed to be front and centre.
Even the steepest slope can look slightly flat on screen, which is why we needed the steepest street we could find. However, that same gradient made it the hardest place to work for the cast and crew. We had to take careful safety precautions, so what looks effortless on screen was very controlled behind the scenes.”
