Electric wheelchairs under the value of £2000 can be covered under our Wheelchair Insurance policy, anything above would be covered by our Mobility Scooter Insurance policy. This policy covers electric powered wheelchairs up to the value of £10,000 with third party liability, loss, theft & damage as some of the key elements included in the cover.
We also incorporate international travel cover for your wheelchair (excluding North America & Canada), with optional extras for punctures & breakdown should you find yourself stuck whilst on the go.

Important bits to know
It is important to note there is a 7-day waiting period (moratorium), after or from your start date, before you are able to make a claim on your mobility scooter insurance policy.

Do you need insurance for an electric wheelchair?
No, it is not a legal requirement to insure an electric wheelchair.
However, electric wheelchairs can be expensive and are typically relied upon heavily by their users, so taking out insurance is recommended.
Our Wheelchair Insurance covers your electric wheelchair up to the value of £2000, alternatively our Mobility Scooter Insurance policy covers all powered wheelchairs above the value of £2000 including additional cover for manual wheelchairs.

What does Powered Wheelchair Insurance Cover?
Wheelchair insurance protects the policyholder from a number of unforeseen events that could impact their lives or the lives of others.
We understand that the circumstances of our customers are widely varied, as such our wheelchair insurance was designed with our customers in mind. So whether you hire the wheelchair or own it, it gets damaged by accident or intentionally, or even if you get stuck with a puncture whilst out and about, you can rest assured that our policy has you covered.
What do I need to insure my powered wheelchair?
You will need some form of proof of purchase or ownership.
The documents that we accept as valid proof of purchase are;
- The original manual/documentation that came with the Wheelchair
- A photo of the wheelchair OR
- An invoice from the person/store that you purchased the Wheelchair from
Does this policy cover multiple Wheelchairs?
No. As we insure the wheelchair itself, our policy will only apply to that one insured item.
If someone else uses my wheelchair are they covered?
Yes, we are able to cover multiple wheelchair users as long as they have express permission from the wheelchair owner.
Is my electric wheelchair covered whilst I am on holiday?
This is dependant on the insurance provider which is why it is important to check the wording of any insurance policy to decide if the cover is right for you.
Our bronze policy does not cover your electric wheelchair while you are abroad, however the silver & gold tiers of our wheelchair insurance covers your wheelchair when you are abroad for up to 21 days, excluding North America and Canada.

You cannot make a claim within the first 7 days from the policy start date.
No, this policy has no excess.
Yes, as long as you have some documentation to show that this is from the NHS.
On our Silver and Gold levels of cover you will be covered up to 21 days during your period of insurance when travelling outside of the UK, excluding North America and Canada. This policy will cover you in respect of damage to your manual wheelchair whilst in the possession or control of airport authorities, baggage handlers or whilst on an aircraft.
Our underwriter SAGIC has its own in-house claims. To make a claim you must contact them on 0300 030 1865 with your policy number at hand.

Yes, if your wheelchair needs repairing a temporary replacement will be provided to the policyholder.
Unfortunately we would not cover your wheelchair during sport activities, therefore wouldn’t cover a sports wheelchair.
We will send you a reminder 30 days prior to your renewal date, we will then give a courtesy call a week before to make sure you are aware of when the policy expires.
