No, it is not a legal requirement to insure a cabin car. However, cabin cars can be expensive to purchase initially and then repair costs can rack up. Due to how heavily their users rely on them it is advisable to protect your cabin car and take out an insurance policy.

What is a cabin car?

A cabin car is one of the most advanced mobility scooter vehicles on the market. Cabin cars are similar to mobility scooters as they have the same standard features. However, cabin cars are enclosed making them more suited to travelling outside in the elements. Some cabin cars even have features such as led lights, rear wheel drive and rear parking sensors, usb charging ports, a reversing camera, an external charging cable and wireless hands-free system. Yes, you can add one manual wheelchair to your policy up to the value of £2,000.

What does cabin car insurance cover?

This policy protects you from a number of unforeseen events such as theft, loss and accidental damage allowing you to have complete confidence. In addition, our policies cover 

you for third-party liability, personal accident and legal expenses. 

Does this policy cover multiple cabin cars?

 No, as we insure the cabin car itself, our policy will only apply to one cabin car on the policy.

Do I need to pay road tax for my cabin car?

No, you do not need to arrange road tax for your cabin car.

Do I need a driving licence to drive a cabin car?

No, you do not need a driving license to drive a cabin car. It is strongly advised for your own safety and for other people’s safety that you familiarise yourself with the highway code if you are using your cabin car on the road.

Can you insure my cabin car Mk2 Plus?

Yes absolutely, as long as the value of your cabin car mk2 plus is £15,000 or less. With many more cabin car MK2 plus cars on the market today, it is important to do your research to ensure you get the correct price and if possible we would recommend a test drive.

I have a flat battery in my cabin car, can I claim back the cost for replacing this?

Unfortunately, we do not cover batteries or wear and tear under this policy and you would have to arrange the replacement and pay for the cost associated with this.

Do you have a maximum speed limit I can travel in my cabin car?

In order to be covered under our policy, you can only travel up to 8mp. If your cabin car can do more than this then we ask that you get a limiter fitted. If you require assistance with this you can contact your local repairer and they may even be able to come to your own home to fit this.

How long before I can claim for my cabin car?

You cannot make a claim within the first 7 days from the policy start date.

Who do I call if I need to make a claim for my cabin car?

In the event of a claim, you must provide the additional information:

  1. Scooter Model
  2. Year of Manufacturer
  3. Proof of Purchase (see below)

Do I need to pay any excess when I claim?

No, this policy has no excess and no hidden fees.

Do I get a renewal reminder for my policy on my cabin car?

We will send you a reminder 30 days prior to your renewal date, we will then give a courtesy call a week before to make sure you are aware of when the policy expires. It is also strongly recommended and advised to turn on auto renew to ensure that you are never without cover.

My windscreen wiper isn’t working, do you cover the cost to replace these?

If your windscreen wipers break due to accidental damage then this is something that we would cover the cost of, however, if it is due to a mechanical fault these costs would not be covered by our policy. It is important to note that if your vehicle requires windscreen washer that you are ensuring this is topped up to avoid getting caught out.

Can I include breakdown cover to my policy?

Yes, indeed you can. 24/7 Breakdown recovery is an optional extra that you can add to your policy at thee booking stage or during the renewal process.
