It is important to note there is a 7-day waiting period (moratorium), after or from your start date, before you are able to make a claim on your mobility scooter insurance policy.

Do you need insurance for an electric wheelchair?

No, it is not a legal requirement to insure an electric wheelchair.

However, electric wheelchairs can be expensive and are typically relied upon heavily by their users, so insurance is highly recommended. Our Wheelchair Insurance covers your electric wheelchair up to the value of £2000. Alternatively, our Mobility Scooter Insurance covers all powered wheelchairs above the value of £2000, including additional cover for manual wheelchairs.

Should I get wheelchair insurance?

Wheelchair insurance is important for people who depend on their wheelchair. Our policies help to secure your freedom, giving you peace of mind that you will always have the option to stay mobile following an insured event.

What does wheelchair insurance cover?

Wheelchair insurance protects the policyholder from a number of unforeseen events that could impact their lives or the lives of others.

We understand that the circumstances of our customers are widely varied, as such our wheelchair insurance was designed with our customers in mind. So whether you hire the wheelchair or own it, it gets damaged by accident or intentionally, or even if you get stuck with a puncture whilst out and about, you can rest assured that our policy has you covered.

What do I need to insure my wheelchair?

You will need some form of proof of purchase or ownership.

If someone else uses my wheelchair are they covered?

Yes, we are able to cover multiple wheelchair users as long as they have express permission from the wheelchair owner.

Does wheelchair insurance cover multiple wheelchairs?

No. As we insure the wheelchair itself, our policy will only apply to that one insured item.

Is my wheelchair covered whilst I am on holiday?

Not always. It is important to check the wording of any insurance policy to decide if the cover is right for you.

The silver & gold tiers of our wheelchair insurance covers your wheelchair when you are abroad for up to 90 days, excluding North America and Canada.

Some frequently asked questions

How long before I can make a claim?

You cannot make a claim within the first 7 days from the policy start date.

Do I need to pay any excess when I claim?

No, this policy has no excess.

I got my wheelchair through the NHS, can this be covered?

Yes, as long as you have some documentation to show that this is from the NHS.

What am I covered for if I travel abroad?

On our Silver and Gold levels of cover, you will be covered up to 90 days during your period of insurance when travelling outside of the UK, excluding North America and Canada. This policy will cover you in respect of damage to your manual wheelchair whilst in the possession or control of airport authorities, baggage handlers or whilst on an aircraft.

Do you provide me with a temporary wheelchair whilst mine is being repaired?

Yes, if your wheelchair needs repairing a temporary replacement will be provided to the policyholder.

Do you cover wheelchairs used for sport?

Unfortunately, we would not cover your wheelchair during sports activities, therefore wouldn’t cover a sports wheelchair.

Do I get a renewal reminder for my policy?

We will send you a reminder 30 days prior to your renewal date, we will then give a courtesy call a week before to make sure you are aware of when the policy expires.
